Steve and Alex’s Wedding | Tregedna Weddings

Steve and Alex originally began their venue search closer to home in London, but found venues to have very limited availability and all cost ALOT for one day and all had an emphasis on doing everything catering, decor, disco plus many were all heavily bride orientated, which wasn’t them!

"We widened our search and discovered Tregedna Weddings. We loved the idea that it was by the beach, and had a big open space that allowed us to decorate it how we wanted it! And it got even better over lockdown as Liz, the owner, built an extra space - The Loft, not only a beautiful space but one with a wedding licence. This was perfect for us and also meant that we didn’t have to worry about ferrying guests with young children from ceremony to reception - our day could take place all in one location! Liz was so lovely and welcoming when we visited, we viewed the barn and loved the open beams, the space and the fact that some of our younger guests could nap downstairs if the evening got a bit much! If we were ever to do this all again, we’d certainly recommend and go back to Tregedna!

Paul Keppel Photography

"We discovered Paul on the Tregedna Weddings website, we viewed his portfolio and were very impressed by his work and competitive pricing- everything was transparent and easy to see.

We were hoping that as we were booking two years in advance that hopefully, he’d be free on our special day. We sent him an email and he called us back within the hour to discuss our requirements, he was so friendly, approachable and incredibly efficient- always available to have a chat and help us out.

On the big day, Paul was amazing he instantly made us feel at ease, established what we’d like and offered helpful comments and suggestions- being a same-sex couple we’re certainly not used to holding hands, let alone kissing in public! But he was so supportive and offered encouragement that we did just that! We’re glad we did too our photos are AMAZING!

Theme

"There wasn’t a theme as such, but to do the surroundings and lodge justice, we did head in a Vintage direction! We made all the decorations and bunting ourselves so that it matched the elegant beauty of the barn and made it look inviting. We did all of the traditional ceremony, meal, cake cutting, speeches, first dance and disco and had lots of outdoor games for the kids."

The Wedding Feast

Adam- The Aussie Smoker offered an incredible feast of 12-hour slow-cooked pulled pork, chicken tenders, ‘What No Bacon? Beans’, Mac n Cheese, and two types of salad, he sourced in delicious desserts in a jar from The Dessert Shed (Millionaire shortbread and Orange and Pistachio) and for later on in the evening he arranged for the delivery of THE BEST Cornish pasties I have ever tasted. It was important that the food was brilliant as guests mostly look back and remember the food and the dancing. Adam offered a varied menu to suit everyone’s taste and was hands down one of the best meals we have ever eaten! After just 5 minutes of food being on the table, there was not one morsel of Mac n Cheese to be found, it was that good!

We couldn’t have asked for anything more from any of them- they all ran the day smoothly and were professional and courteous at all times. But a special mention to Adam the Aussie Smoker, he rang us two days before the wedding and asked what were planning to eat the day before the wedding- when we explained to him that well be setting up the venue all day, he offered to drop us off some ribs, chips and salad to us and all our helpers in the evening- he is so genuine and kind and it was lovely to be so well fed two days in a row!

We ordered our suits during the lockdown, such fun!!

As we weren’t able to physically visit a shop, we decided to browse online and order a few suits each from Suits Direct. We had a little catwalk and montage in the house and each decided which suit we liked best and video called some friends for their opinions. Alex had a navy suit with mustard squares and I had a blue and green Tartan Suit (which reminded me of my first car seats!!). To really make the suits pop we approached Tereza Varga and asked if she could custom design and make a glass bowtie for each of us, Alex had pressed delphinium petals in his and mine had pressed hydrangea petals- all of our guests loved and commented on how unique they were, we’ll certainly be wearing them to lots of future occasions!

Favourite part of the day…

There were two moments that really stood out for us- one was holding hands and showing some affection on the beach- it was so empowering to finally be our authentic selves (so thank you for the encouragement Paul!) and the second was the moment we were announced Mr and Mr Hollings- Carmichael! Our family and friends were so loving and supportive and cheered so loudly, it was a really endearing moment.

Top Tips

Get a notebook and plan everything together as a team, that way when it comes to the big crunch, you both know exactly which suppliers are doing what and when, and you can make as many ‘To Remember/ To Do’ lists as you need- otherwise it’s rather stressful trying to remember how you planned every exact detail!

Suppliers: The Aussie Smoker, Majestic Wine, The Cornish Flower Patch, Trevarno Marquee & Hire - Furniture Hire, SoundOne Disco
